I want to have a button in the database that would “Set the database rights to read-only”. What is the best way to do this? The NotesACL Class?

Not sure why you would want to do this as it sounds like a reciepe for disaster. First of all the person pressing the button would have to have Manager rights for anything to happen. Second, if there are not other groups/roles that have Manager Access already defined you could lock everyone out of the DB. Third if the person has Manager Access rights then File/Database/Access Control List puts them into the ACL and now they can be sure that they do not do anything stupid. If the person has Manager Rights to the database and does not know how to do this they should not have Manager Rights to the database.

Yes, the ACL class will allow you to do that, as long as the person pressing the button has manager access at the time they press the button, also, you can lock yourself out of a database this way, so be sure to set the default access in the agent to manager and then set at least one group to have manager acces, then do whatevery else you need to.
