Server-to-Server Connection

Hi guys, good morning!

I don´t want to use my Domino Server for messaging and another functions. I want just to connect to a server of another company, to exchange data. My Domino Server has its own IP, but doens´t have a domain in the web. Do I need this domain?

Thanks,

No, just the IP. the domain name resolves to an IP address anyway (try pinging www.yahoo.com and you’ll get it’s ip address - you should be be able to type this address in your browser to get a web page up).

If both servers have public IP addresses and can access the internet, then no you don’t need a web domain as you put it. Just think of it as normal server to server replication with the internet as a large WAN.

You need to cross certify the servers, make sure the servers can access the internet on port 1352 and put the replica on each server. Then just set up normal replication connection document.

However DO ensure your domino server security (and OS) is tight. All default/anonymous access is No Access, check all those system databases like names, log, catalog, etc. REALLY MAKE SURE YOUR SECURITY IS TIGHT! Cause once on the internet it will be fair game for all those nasty people out there to hack.
