Server setup

I am attempting to add an additional server to the domain. I have gone through the registration process, attached the cert.id etc. Problem is my additional server is not getting a response from the registration server. This network has only two servers. I know the communication is ok because I can look at the /local/notesdata directory on the desktop.

One thing that worries me is that the additional server, which was set up by a third party, has a user named notes and a password: notes. The main server has a user named Tsmith, password is smitty. (names and pwords not real). I start the Server Setup by just typing in ‘notes’ when asked for a password. It starts the domino and the setup OK My concern is that this lack of communication is a user/password problem.

I just need to know if that is the issue before I spend a lot of time on other possibilities.

Subject: Replaced name with IP

First thanks to Barry, Chad and Bradley for their thoughts.

I tried Bradley’s suggestion of using the IP address and that solved the problem. I guess I can assume that port 1652 is open?

I think the problem might be that this server is set up to do http so maybe I should be using the fully qualified internet host name rather than the server name?

Subject: I’m sure you meant prt 1352…

Sounds like your new server has a DNS Configuration issue if it could not resolve the Admin Server name properly

Subject: Did you check your firewall?

Generally, port 1352 is blocked by default, and your second server needs to make a connection on that port to pull down the required files. When I’ve seen the additional server setup fail at this point, that’s usually the cause.

If you have unblocked Port 1352, and still have an issue, try to place the Admin servers IP address in the server name field. this wll usually allow the new server to find the Admin server
