Server name

I have just loaded my 8.5 server and the new features are wonderful compared to the 6.03 that I had! But… When I went from designer to design, preview in a browser the URL had MMS in front of it (http://mms.managementsoftwaresystems.org). It should have been http://managementsoftwaresystems.org. So I went to Administrator and changed the server name from mms/managementsoftwaresystems to managementsoftwaresystems. That was a baaad mistake. Now the server won’t load of course and the Monday gang of customers will be a little upset. How do I fix it? I tried the notes.ini in the domino directory but it didn’t seem to help. When the server loads it says it can’t find the mms/managementsoftwaresystems server and of course shuts down. Help!

Subject: What exactly did you modify?

It sounds like you modified the following fields on the Domino Server’s Server Document:

Basics tab → Server name:

                        Fully qualified Internet host name:

…since the Server can’t find “mms/managementsoftwaresystems” during startup. What you’ll need to do is pull a copy of the Server’s “names.nsf” to your Workstation to revert your changes & then replace the Server’s existing copy with the one you modified. Here’s some steps you can follow to do that:

  1. Create a copy of the Domino Server’s “names.nsf” Database onto your Workstation. If possible, use a Binary-mode FTP transfer to insure data integrity.

  2. Open the “names.nsf” using your IBM Lotus Administrator client and then goto:

Configuration tab → Server → All Server Documents

  1. Find the Domino Server Document for the Server you modified which I believe you said was “managementsoftwaresystems” and open-it.

  2. Put the Document into Edit mode (i.e. double-click or click the “Edit” button) and edit the following field:

Basics tab → Server name:

BEFORE: managementsoftwaresystems

AFTER: mms/managementsoftwaresystems

  1. Save & Close the Server Document.

  2. Rename the “names.nsf” Database in your Domino Server’s Data Directory.

  3. Using an FTP Binary-mode transfer, upload the “names.nsf” you modified from your Workstation to the Domino Server’s Data Directory.

  4. Start-up the Domino Server.

Subject: Thank you!

That worked just fine and thank you!
