Hi everyone,
I have 2 Domino servers in my local LAN. Every once in a while, client applications seem to ‘forget’ where one of the servers is. The only way I’ve found to jog it’s memory is to go into User Preferences, and do a ‘trace’ to the server’s IP address - then I can find the server once again.
I find this completely mystifying since:
-
I have a connection document with this server in it, with the correct IP address in my Address book
-
Windows can consistently find the server no problem using any of a) DNS, b) WINS or c) a broadcast
I have to ask the question:
Why, oh why would my mail client decide to ignore some fundamental functions of my Operating System’s network stack and choose to implement it’s own, seemingly faulty name resolution scheme?
Is there some way to tell Notes - “Use DNS to locate servers”?
I’m sorry if I seem frustrated, but I am. This seems so obvious to me…the whole point of the OSI model was not to reinvent the wheel…
Anyway - Sorry for the vent! ![]()
If anyone has any suggestions for how to fix or workaround this problem, it would be greatly appreciated (as always).
Dan
