I found two big issues with server mail rules which filter by attachment names:
1.) documented here: http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?&uid=swg21193383
that means that many attachments are not seen by the mail rules until you set MIMEForceAttachments=1 in notes.ini of the server. Why the hell is this not the default?
2.) the filter for attachment names uses @AttachmentNames(), not @AttachmentNames(@false). This causes the filter to fail for special types of attachments (in-line in large MIME parts).
You can check it in the names.nsf, script lib “Rules”, Funktion BuildCVarBlock, Line 60
I’m very unsatisfied with the mail rules; Domino claims to be a world class mail system, and when I don’t know about these two things the server mail rules simply are not reliable for filtering attachments. That brought me in a very bad situation for a customer of mine.
I will create a SPR for that, but I’m curious: are there any other problems with server mail rules for filtering attachments? How can I guarantee that they filter every attachment? How should I explain to customers that a world class mail system is not able to filter attachments in a reliable way?
Thanks for any hint ![]()
