Server crashing every five minutes!

Since going to production on our Domino server (6.0.2 CF1, iSeries), it is continually crashing every five minutes. I found a mention that the Indexer could cause such a problem, but disabling the Indexer task doesn’t help. I am in the process of getting Lotus support involved, but if anyone else has any ideas it would be much, much appreciated! Thanks.

Do you have replication scheduled at 5 minutes? If you do temporarily disable it and see what happens

There’s lots of stuff that occurs on the server “every 5 minutes”. These generally can be classified into 2 groups, update-configuration and update-statistics type tasks.

The server checks to see if you’ve made any changes to the config documents and refreshes the settings if you have. Then it updates port, NSF, NIF, Mail and Disk statistics. Check these areas and/or disable statistics to help narrow the problem down.

  • This was a fresh install of Domino 6.

  • I’m going to try a controlled startup once the majority of users are off the server. Fortunately users have local replicas of their mail so the server crashes aren’t as perceptible to them.

Is the server crashing 5 minutes after you have restarted it?

Subject: Found cause; how to resolve?

It turns out is is the replication task. Users replicate their new mail and roaming profiles to their Notes clients. I turned on debugging parameters and it’s a different user’s database in use each time the server crashes. Does anyone know how to fix this? I really appreciate everyone’s help.

Have you tried starting the server with a very minimal ServerTasks= enty in your Notes.ini? Try it empty or just http. Then if it says up for a few minutes, at the console load tasks one by one.

Is this an upgrade from 5? Are all your databases at the latest ODS R6(43:0)?

Is it just Domino that’s crashing, or is the entire system crashing?
