As part of a recent project, I had to bring over a large number of pop3 mailboxes into domino mail databases (migrating from a linux based pop3 server to domino). The challenge was brining the mail on the pop3 server down into each mail file on domino. While it’s possible to “manually” create a pop3 account from the notes client and “receive” the pop3 messages that way, it was way to manual and took to long to create the account profile for a couple hundred users. So we wrote a server based utility for domino where you define the pop server, account name/password, the destination domino sever and mail file. Since we already had an excel file of the pop3 accounts and the mail file names it was easy to create a config file and “feed” it to the tool. Anyway it saved (me) a lot of work and told me which password were incorrect.
I was thinking that others might like to use the tool (don’t worry, I’d make some version of it freeware), and possibly add features to wrong on other platforms (currently runs on Windows but could easily be ported to other platforms like linux, solaris, aix). I was thinking there me be a need to do server-side mailbox syncing vs. client side (i.e., to support a migration effort).
Anyway just a thought and if there’s enough interest we’ll make it available to the Notes/Domino community.
