Send To Mail Recipient Not Working (Windows 7 and Notes 8.5.1 FP2)

We started to roll out Windows 7 (some 32 bit and some 64) and Notes 8.5.1 Fix Pack 2 and have found that approximately 50% of the computers have a problem with the windows feature where you can attach a file to an New e-mail from the file system: “Send to >> Mail Recipient”.

We have compared PCs that work to those that don’t work, specifically “Default Programs” >> “Set Program Access and Computer Defaults” then chose “Custom”, >> “Choose a default e-mail program” = Lotus Notes. Also compared registry settings relating to MailTo functionality and they all appear to be the same, no differences from the PCs that work vs those that do not?

On the PCs where this feature does not work, you receive this message, “…no email program associated…”:

Are we missing something? Anyone else having this issue ? Could really use some help here, thought maybe it would be fixed in the latest Fix Pack 2 ?

Here’ a shot of the setting in Set Program Access:

I am also facing this issue.

Have you got any solution for this?

8.5.3FP3 includes a fix for this.

Subject: Solution.

Hi there

Probably you already have solved the problem, but if you don’t

Here is a solution, In our company we have exactly the same problem as you do.

Well, for W7 64bit and Lotus Notes 8.5 there is a dll which you have to copy from one folder to another.

The Dll is MSVCR71.DLL It is in C:\Lotus\Notes and you have to copy to C:\Windows\sysWOW64

Subject: Send To Mail not working

I have tried these solutions and nothing is working for me. Win7 64 bit and Office 2007 SP3.I’m running Lotus client 8.5.3.

I have set Lotus to default numerous times.

Is there anything else I’m missing?

Thanks.

Subject: What brand and model hardware are you experiencing the problem on?

Hi David,

Hope you are still monitoring this.

Can I ask what brand and model of PC you are using? We have exactly the same problem and it is reproducible.

We are using HP DC7900 and DC7700 with Windows 7 installed. No matter if we use our in house built image, volume media or OEM software we can’t use the Send To option without seeing the message you attached. When I load Windows 7 into a VM, Lotus Notes works fine when using the Send To. And if we use our in house image to build a VM and load the VM Tools it also works. But we did need to load the VM Tools.

We have a number of HP 8530p and 2530p laptops that have Windows 7 and they work fine. Also have a HP Z400 Workstation and this works fine too.

So we are starting to think it is something to do with drivers/hardware on HPs dc7900 and dc770 with Windows 7. But which drivers, that is what we don’t know.

If you have any more info on this we would really like you to share it with us. And of course we will do the same in return.

Thanks

Nathan

Subject: We have solved this

Hi,

We found that msvcr71.dll was missing from the C:\windows\system32 folder. Get a copy of this and placing here solved all the problems.

Thanks

Nathan

Subject: Thanks, just to include the message text to make this thread findable

Hi Nathan,

Thanks for the solution. We had a customer running into this problem using Notes 8.5.2 basic.

Just for the interne archive; the error message (in plain text) was: “There is no email associatied to perform the requested action. Please install email program, or if one is already installed, create an association in the default program control panel.”

And te cause is a missing msvcr71.dll in Windows 7.

Subject: It’s work fine now

Thanks Nathan.
