Send email though domino server or directly to internet

The setting names.nsf…Send mail … through Domino Server,

or Directly to Internet.

Which should you use … or what reason would you use one or the other of these settings?

Subject: It depends

I guess you’re talking about the settings in the location document of Notes.

If a Domino Mail server in your Domain handles the smtp outbound traffic you should chose “thru Domino”. If you connect directly to your ISP then chose “directly to the internet”.

I have only ever used “directly to the internet”, when I am using the notes client as a SMTP / POP3 client.
