I have a form that has several standard sections in which I have specified a hide formula based on the value of a field located on the same form but outside of any of the sections. It appears that the hide formula is not evaluated until the document is saved. Is there a way to have it so as soon as a user enters a value in a field, a section formula is evaluated and have the section hidden or shown based on the formula?

Make sure that the field is above the section, then make sure changes to the field do a refresh. You could also do this by just refreshing the hide formulas, but that would require a button or script. I guess you could put the refresh of the hide formulas on the exiting script for the field, but do make sure the field is above the section.

I see Ben’s response, but I’m not sure he answered the question you are really asking. I don’t know what you mean by a “section hide formula.” There is no such thing. There are three things I think you might mean:There can be hide formulas inside the section to hide its contents, but these are paragraph hide formulas, not section hide formulas. This is what I think Ben was assuming you meant.
There can be a hide formula on the section heading, but this hides only the section heading – not the contents, so if the section is open they can still see what’s in it.
If you mean the section editors formula, where you can open or close the section automatically based on whether the user is considered an editor of it, then no, these evaluate only when the document is opened. Elsewhere in this forum (Update rich text tip) I posted a way to close and reopen a document without saving it; this will cause re-evaluation of section editors lists and subform formulas.
