Second server setup fail - Server not responding

I am setting up a second server. The new server is 6.5.3 and the first is 5

The setup fails at 20% with a server not responding error. I can ping the servers IP address. I added the IP address to the optional network address in setup. The new server in in the localdomainadmins group.

From your new server, you have to be able to ping the old server by name, not IP address. So if your hierarchical name is SecondServer/Domain, you need to be able to ping SecondServer and have it resolve out to an IP address and answer.

Edit your Hosts table on your new server to add this entry and you should be good to go.

I added the host entry so I am now able to ping the Domino 5 server by server/domain and by the host name server.domain.com

This still does not work. What should I try now?

You need to be able to ping by server name only, not the hierarchical name.

I am assuming the following:

  1. The R5 server is your NAB Manager

  2. You’ve created the new server already and it’s in the NAB
