Searching for null date value

I’m sure this is a very simple question but I can’t find the answer: how does the user search for documents which have a null value in a given date field?

If you use the “Fill out example form” button and enter an empty string (“” or " "), you just get “Query not understandable.” If you use the Field button, you get all the date field options (“is on,” “is after,” “is before,” etc.) - even though an empty text value is stored before a value is entered - and you can’t enter an empty string there, either.

I’ve done several searches for relevant postings, but the only one I could find simply said you can search for an empty string in a date field but did not explain how. Neither the client nor Designer help seems to address this question. (Maybe I am not using the right search terms myself!)

I suppose it is staring me in the face, but even a long Christmas break did not help to unblock my inability to find the answer… so any help is greatly appreciated.

TIA

probably via script, formula lang or by creating a view where Date = “”. I don’t think you can search for an empty date value using the search builder.

OK, thanks… I was going to offer to build a view for them which would at least take care of the criterion of a blank date, and then they could further refine the search from there, but this is going to come up periodically when they do their own searches.

Thanks for the response.
