Searching across multiple mail archives

Is it possible to set up Notes to be able to do a search across multiple mail archive dbs stored on my local hard drive?

Subject: Yes… but it’s a long process

Yes… but it’s a major PITA. I just finished this myself.

If you’re starting from scratch, tell your journaling not to encrypt fields (Send To, From, and Body specifically)

If already rolling, in short, you have to trust your ACL access is locked down on the journals, then with your ID assigned to the journals, you have to unencrypt all the documents. It takes awhile… I had to build a custom view that shows encrypted docs and then an agent to run on all docs in the view.

The purpose of unencrypting the document is so that your indexing server can actually read the contents of the fields, and then build a search index.

After that, you set up domain search in your catalog.nsf and run your search from here.

You get everything, but the results are all out of order (typical FT Search), and you can’t run any actions such as throw them all in a container for open records purposes. That will take some custom scripting.

Subject: You can now use Windows Search to do this

There is a Lotus Notes connector that will allow you to index your local e-mail and archives automatically in the background. One search searches your e-mail, archives, attachments and files. It also provides the ability to preview the message and/or any previewable attachments. See www.notesconnectors.com
