Search this view and View All / View Unread

I have a user who swears that this used to work before and no longer does but I couldn’t find anything about it so I’m posting the question. If I’m in my inbox or any folder for that matter and go to View - Search This View and put in my criteria it hides all emails except the ones that meet my search criteria. Now if I click on the View Unread only button and do the same search it puts a checkbox next to the items that meet my search criteria but it still shows the other unread emails. The user believes that until recently when he searched in “show unread” only it used to hide the emails that don’t match his search criteria just like it does when you’re on view all. Anyone have an idea about this? I can’t find any setting and on the 2-3 clients I’ve tested it on the results are the same.

Subject: Shows all unread until you search again

Clicking ‘View > Show Unread’ (after the first search) clears the search and shows all unread documents. The search criteria remain displayed in the search bar. Clicking ‘Search’ again searches the unread documents only.

The correct emails are showing up in search, my question is more about how the results are displayed. when you’re in view all mode, only the emails that match the search results are shown (the other emails in the folder are hidden). But when you do the same search in view unread mode, all the emails are displayed and there’s just a check next to the ones that match your search criteria.
