Search bar doesnt remember anything

Why doesnt the search bar remember my input? Is this the way it should be?

I am speaking of the search bar in this forum, in the upper right corner !!!

I didnt get the right hits by my first search string. Maybe I am to bad in choosing my criteria. And so I have to type it all again and change some little for a fuzzy search. I have to type it again and again and again.
