Our current hosting envirnment does not allow scheduled agents to access server content other than within its hosting NSF. Security limitations also prohibit server file access. Is there a way to 1. create agents that can be scheduled nightly that can access another NSF (which the user has designer access to) on a different server. 2. is there a way to eliminate running an agent from a client to access data to be processed without having FTP / File access on the server. The client connection adds large processing time overhead. The file contained on the Client is text in nature and is approx 6-10M large. I have tried LEI to perform a scripted activity without any success.
Thanks

NSF=National Science Foundation?

You mean you want to read a text file located on a network drive?

Tom,

A scheduled agent can access NSF files on another server as long as that other server TRUSTS your server. Server doc >> Security Tab >> Trusted Servers. Note that this is a powerful feature and should be treated with care.

I don’t understand. It sounds like you asking if you can access a file on disk without accessing the file on disk?

Subject: RE: Scheduled Agent access limitation
Raphael, Thank you for your response. I had the Send eMail option set in the posting and did not receive a notice so I did not realize you had reponded. I will follow up on the Trusted Sources, thanks. My posting was not all that clear regarding file access… Let me try again… Based on our infrastructure, application developers are not allowed access to the Server directory and or file structure. As a result we cannot FTP files to the server where the LN database resides and there are no network connected disks that we can directly save content to. As a result, if an agent needs to process data, and in this case a Text File, I must run the agent from a client and access the file from the clients hard drive. Network connectivity for long running agents is poor during off hours with expected nightly inturruptions (short but do cause the agent to stop running). I was asking if there were any options to say “attach” a file to a notes document in the database and then open that attachment in an agent to be able to process the text file using say system cache to access its content rather than to rely on the connected client for the file access. It does work using the client, but it would sure help if I could eliminate the need to be “connected” at the client side…
Thanks
