Save The Client

Here’s a scenario for which I am hoping to find a solution. We have a Notes database that needs to be accessible to all our employees. The challenge in doing this is our ‘kiosk’ computers from which we do NOT want users to:

(1) Have to enter a password

(2) Be able to change the password

(3) Be able to send an e-mail

My thoughts for each are:

(1) Use zero-length passwords or SSO

(2) I believe I can use SMTP Inbound and Outbound Controls to prevent incoming and outgoing ‘external’ mail but not internal mail?

(3) Help!

Kiosk mode is not a good solution because: (1) The database will be ‘launched’ for all users via a URL on our Intranet and kiosk mode is not appropriate for our non-kiosk computers (2) The kiosk users need to be able to shut down Notes without the use of a keyboard.

I realize that a Domino (web) application would meet the requirements but I’m looking for a solution for the Notes client. Any ideas?

if the users of the kiosk computers are a different group than the rest of your network perhaps you could set up a server just for them? Depending on your particular scenario you could allow anonymous access to the server and database. Since the users won’t have a login as such the password issue won’t arise.they shouldn’t be able to send email either if I remember correctly but at the very least you could turn off the router task so no email would route through that box at all.

Dave,

Register your kiosk users with “none” as the mail system, then make sure they do not have access to any mail files or mail.box on any server - that should stop them sending mail.

hope that helps
