Save Dialog shouldn't be displaying

I have a dropdown that contains a list of notes documents. Users select one of these to create a link in the current document to the one they have selected. Users save the document and the system works it’s way through the QuerySave. Within the PostSave, I create a link within the rich text file to the document they selected. At the end of the PostSave is another save. User can then select “Close” to close the document.

The problem is that about 60% of the time this works great. Links are created, document saved, etc.

The other 40% of the save, when I select “Save” and then select “Close”, the system asks me if I wish to save my document. I have already saved it. Have made no other changes. Have done the exact same key sequences as the times it did work. When it asks to save the document again, the document links to not get set properly.

Can anyone point me in a direction as to where to look for a resolution to this problem???

It sounds as though, in the case where you are asked to save the document, the agent is crashing prior to the programmatic save (since the documents links are not created properly).

You don’t, by chance, have an “on error resume next” statement in there somewhere do you? Or an error catch that doesn’t display teh issue?

Have you stepped through the code using the debugger to see if there are any instances where the logic prevents the save operation?

First, if the number of links you need to be able to create is limited, you might consider using a button instead of a doclink. The button reads the value you have entered in the field and uses it as a key to find the document in a view and open it. This lets you do useful things like creating views of documents sorted by which other documents they refer to, etc without involving you in the complexities of rich text.

If you want to update some rich text, though, you can do it in the Querysave code. You have to call Source.Refresh(True) to make sure your back-end copy of the text is up to date, and you should use the Update method to pack any pending changes in at the end. It’s a little more complex if the rich text field can also be edited manually, since the user’s changes will override yours. In such case, you might want to look at this: Update rich text tip.

I created a new topic again by accident. Here is a link to continuation of this saga.
