I have installed Symantec AntiVirus/Filtering for Domino v3.1.0.67 on a Domino 6.0.1 system running on Windows 2000 Server w/Service Pack 3. With the SAV task running I get repeated messages at the server that say:
date/time Error connecting to server dt_notes/Draffin-Tucker: The server is not responding. The server may be down or you may be experiencing network problems. Contact your system administrator if this problem persists.
When I “tell sav quit” about four more of these messages pop up before the SAV task unloads and then they stop until I start the SAV task again.
Any suggestions or help as to where to look to troubleshoot this issue? Thanks in advance for any help provided.

I looked at symantec.com and couldn’t find anything like this… it looks a bit like the server is trying to ‘talk to itself’ and can’t. Can you ping 127.0.0.1 from the server? Can you ping the actual IP address from the server? Is the name of the server the same as the DNS name? All these are the sort of thing that could create communications issues.
(We have 3.0.1.147 on one server… is yours really 3.1.0.67?)

I can ping each of the IP addresses mentioned in your post from the server. I posted this on Symantec’s site as well and they also had never heard of this problem but were looking into it for me. I’m checking into some DNS issues (internal/external, etc.) that might have some effect. The version is indeed 3.1.0.67. I downloaded it at the direction of Symantec. According to them the 3.0.x version doesn’t work on Domino 6.x. The gold release is not available yet. This version is trialware (it’s on their site in the enterprise section and is accessed through the “Try Me” link) and they issue you a 90 day license to cover you until the gold release. Thanks for your feedback.
addendum: The problem seems to be with my DNS settings. I had my server pointing to external DNS servers, omitting my internal DNS server that had the internal IP address of the Domino server as a resource record. Adding my internal DNS server caused the errors to stop. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

Glad you fixed it! And, yeah, that version number is correct. We loaded it from CD to another server and LiveUpdate’d and got the same rev.
DNS issues can really be trickly, especially if the server name in Notes isn’t the same as the ‘DNS’ name.
