Running 8.5 Clients

Hi All,

I have a quick question. All my servers run Domino 8.01. Is there any issues running the full 8.5 Client and Administration Client to administrate those 8.01 servers? I’m going to start testing Windows 7 and I read that the 8.5 client is the only one that works with Windows 7. We aren’t going to update Domino to 8.5 for a while so I need to run the 8.5 Client. Someone once told me years ago that I shouldn’t administrate an older version with a new client. Any truth to that?

Subject: Yes but…

You can. What I might recommend in updating the names to the lastest version.

This is of course if all your servers are 8.0.1. If there are R6 or worst, R5 servers, this might not be the best solution.

The bad thing about using a newer client is that you will see some options that won’t work because the code is in the names.nsf but the code itself to make that feature work is not in the Domino Server yet (Because you have 8.0.1 and not 8.5)

The update order is always Notes, then the names.nsf and then the server.
