Router Problem

I encountered a problem few times in these month, some users send huge size (6MB to 9MB) mails in day time on 14Nov2006 (6 to 7 in each Mail.Box, totally we have 2 Mail.Box) and the server schedule these kind of mails will be delivered at the midnight.

But it still cannot send out in next morning (normally it will release), so I try to restart the router (tell router quit)… no response, then I type (load router), it said the router already running and the router cannot route both internal and external mails, it seems hang.

In the command line it appears (Router … awaiting reactivation Router… waiting for deactivation of all threads).

So, I reboot the server, it cannot receive the external mails in the first time, so I reboot again.

Please advise what is the problem here, where I can check the problem? Any Logs? Is it related to fixup process (we have schedule fixup the database at 4:00am each day)

Thanks & regards,

Michael

Subject: Router Problem

I wouldn’t call those huge emails - Our policy is to delay emails larger than 25MB, and deny those larger than 50MB (because it just takes too long to push them out to the next hop).

I doubt fixup is causing a problem, though you’d do well to only run it when you need to - like say, when there is a problem.

Perhaps you should use something like Ethereal to see if the router is actively sending those e-mails when it appears to be unresponsive.

You may also want to look in the fix-list database if you haven’t already. There are at least three fix-packs for 6.5.4, and 6.5.5 is up to fix-pack 2.
