Router not sending email to some SMTP servers when body has special HTML characters

We’re getting a very strange problem with router not sending certain emails to certain SMTP servers lately. We running Domino 7.0.3 FP1 on x64 2003 server. The problem started after we moved the mail server from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003 64-bit.

Lately, we noticed that some emails just sit in the mail.box while most will go through. I can send emails to the same company and most will get through but some will just sit in mail.box. After much troubleshooting I concluded that if the email body has special characters &#8211 and above

special characters like “en dash” or “left double quotation mark”, then the router will take forever to connect to some STMP servers. They will eventually become undelivered emails. The problem seem to occur to only some STMP servers (like gmail), but not others (like yahoo mail). I can literally write a simple test email with any of these characters

and the email will just not get routed. Have anyone seen this problem? Or, offer suggestion on how to solve this problem?

TIA

I’ve confirmed that this is a 32-bit 7.0.3 FP1 running on 64-bit 2003 server issue. I created a test bed running 32-bit 2003 server with 32-bit 7.0.3.FP1 and did not have this problem. Strange enough this problem only happen to certain SMTP email hosts. Gmail is one of it. I think it has something to do with 32-bit running on 64-bit OS and unicode. Although I’m not sure what the problem is.

I’m going to creat a test bed running Domino 64-bit 8.0.2 running on 64-bit 2003 server and see if that solves the problem. Will keep you posted.

Looks like 64-bit 8.0.2 Domino running on 64-bit Windows 2003 does not have this problem. I guess the fix is to upgrade to 8.0.2.
