Hello!
We actually have a 5.0.5 domino server and we’re going to upgrade to the 6.0.3 version soon.
I read the Upgrade Redbook but there’s no information on the eventual roll back operation in case of disaster upgrade.
If the upgrade fails, what do I need to do to rollback to the actual 5.0.5 version?
If I backup the 5.0.5 Domino folder and reinstall the 5.0.5 version from the CD on this folder, is it OK?
Thank you!

Hi Tim,
As long as you have the backup of domino directory, and other important databases and server ID, cert ID and user IDs then should be ok
cheers,

It depends on a variety of things such as how long you run the server before downgrading. Any databases which have been compacted will be changed to ODS 43, which R5 cannot read. You can use COMPACT -R to revert the ODS to the previous version. Alternately, you can restore everything from tape. Hopefully you will stick with R6. If you decide to downgrade, be sure to purge any R6 templates. If you do not restore the OS (i.e. full file restore), you may want to run through the R5 installation from CD to ensure registry entries are consistent.
Any reason not to use R6.5.1?
Do a good backup first.

I agree with Doug, I have converted last week my company’s Sevrer from 5.05 to 6.51 on new box, It works great,on new BOX w/ Cluster. There are also couple of Points to make sure as follows, Are you using current, box. if yes make sure you have enough space due to user Templates changes from Defult 5 meg to 14 meg. Also It reuires more memory. Make sure SMTP shutdown

Thank you!In case of disaster on the first day, I will restore everything from tape!
For information, my intention is not to convert the user’s Notes client and databases to the R6 version during the first weeks. I only want to upgrade the server (and all the admin databases), see if everything’s OK and then upgrade the clients and their mailboxes.
If we encounter problems on the server after 1-2 weeks (big memory leak for exemple) and if we want to downgrade to R5, we could then not use the R5 backup anymore (because of new mails, new docs in databases, …). Then I have to convert all the ODS43 databases (admin databases) to ODS41 with compact -R.
But after that, do I have to reinstall R5 from CD on the R6 Domino Directory or do I have to restore my R5 backup and replace on the system all databases that have changes (mailboxes,…)?
