There seems to be a few posts about the following questions but nobody seems to be able to provide any clear answers. Is there anyway you can change the location of the data directory for a notes multi user install or have Lotus hardcoded it to local settings?
My reasons for wanting to move this directory are whilst the multi user install/roaming user is a good idea I dont expect the user to have to run client configuration everytime they login to a different computer, We currently mimic roaming profiles by installing the data directory to the users network drive so any PC they logon to they can access their notes client but the size of data directory has now increased from about 45 meg to over 80 and with over 200 roaming notes users this will take up a lot of space on file servers and increase network traffic.
Now the other obvious option would be to use multi user install without notes roaming profiles because only about 10 meg of data is created in the documents and settings folder once the notes client is configured but why do Lotus insist on creating this in “local settings” and not “application data”, if stored in “application data” it would be part of the users 2000 roaming profile and any PC they login to will have their notes client settings and I would even save about 30 meg a file server disk space for our current roaming users, I know I can change registry so “local settings” becomes part of the 2000 roaming profile but that again would take up a lot of file server disk space as my current folder is over a 100 meg.
So I have two questions is there anyway if we used Notes roaming users that when they login to a new PC the default server name and settings already appear in the client so the user does not need to configure it or can I change the default data directory for a multi user install?
Any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated as this current issue is holding up the rollout of notes 6 for 70% of my users.
