Roaming User Setup - New Install

I played with the roaming user stuff a good bit in the release candidate, and found that after I’d been set up as roaming and my files were “digested” on the roaming server, I could go to any new machine, install the client, start the client, and supply my name, server, and password to have my roaming files propagated down and I’d be ready to go.

With Release 6.0.1, I have everything set up just fine as far as the server and roaming profiles go.

When I try to set up the client on a new machine and launch it for the first time, it starts the workstation setup, I put in my name and my REAL mail server (bug in 6.0.1 doesn’t handle just any server in the domain) and I’m prompted for a password. The only problem is the client doesn’t seem to be authenticating to a server or my ID file (which doesn’t even exist on the local machine yet)because my password is ALWAYS invalid trying to do this. I used to be able to put my “short name” in the name field of setup, but doing so now echoes back the “Enter Password for ”.

What am I doing wrong? Surely this works and I just don’t understand anymore (I hope).

Thanks!

When you made the users roaming, did you check the box for “Store user ID file in personal address book”? I ran into the same issue. When I upgraded my user on a test box to roaming, I couldn’t log in. It kept prompting me for the ID file.

I ended up having to downgrade to non-roaming, wait for the changes to propogate, and then upgrade to roaming. Once the changes went through, I was able to roam.

when you say…“I was able to roam”, what does that mean? When you start the Notes client, what does it do?

As you’ve described above, we are prompted for an id. If we’re not prompted for an id, what is it doing?
