I have setup my test server and test account to use Roaming User settings under 6.0.1. Near as I can tell we are limited to what files Notes thinks we want to replicate…
Can we not specify which, or additional files to replicate - such as the user Workspace, or smarticon directories?
Anyone else figured this out? Is it truly limited to names.nsf, bookmarks.nsf, and storing the id file in the address book?
But how do you login to Notes without the ID file there to start with? How do you get the personal address book on the server down to your local disk, so you can access (again, how?) the ID file contained therein?
When you registered a person, under the ID Info tab, if you had the checkbox checked, “in Domino Directory”, you may have the illusion that roaming is occurring but you’ll later notice that password changes are not roaming. The true test of whether real roaming is occurring with the id stored in the PERSONAL address book is that you can go to a new machine and configure Notes and have password changes roam as well as everything else.
So far, we have not found roaming to be reliable and are strongly considering going to the use of personal shares for their data folder.
For new roaming user registration, in order for the ID to be stored in the Personal Address Book, you MUST check the checkbox, “in Domino Directory”. The ID is not stored in the Person Address Book until the first time the user logs in and configures the client. At that time the ID is transferred to the Personal AB and removed from the Person doc of the domino directory.
Now we’ve swung full circle and are strongly reconsidering using this feature. The file share option doesn’t work for disconnected users (field sales reps).
It’s not needed. You’ll find that the R6 bookmark file allows you to “view as workspace”. If anything I’d expect the workspace to disappear in some future release.
