Roaming notes and dictionaries

With V4.x and v5.x we had roaming notes setup throughout our environment.

Now that we’ve upgraded to R6.0 we’re still setup for roaming notes.

All the relevent files are on the users private drive (Names, Desktop, ID, ini, bookmark, journal), and all appears to be working great.

My problem is with the dictionaries.

Currently we also have the UK.DIC and the USER.DIC on the users private drive. As far as we can see the UK.DIC is a fixed dictioary and the USER.DIC is the users dictionary which gets appended with additional words. As the UK.DIC is over 1.5Mb and doesn’t appear to change, we can’t see any reason to keep it on the users private drive and so have tried to move it back to the C: drive and keep the USER.DIC file on the users private drive.

It doesn’t work.

‘Error initialising spell check’ or something to that effect pops up whenever a spell check is performed.

Even with making changes to the SPELL_DIR= setting in the notes.ini to point to the c: drive the message still appears.

It doesn’t make sense. I feel i’ve tried all the possible permutations to get this to work but with no joy and so we currently keep the environment with both the dictionaries on the users private drive taking up a lot of space unnecessarily.

Has anybody else got this to work?

Is there a entry in registry or something which points the UK.DIC one place and the USER.DIC somewhere else?

There are rumours that R6.0.1 will have Roaming support. How will this differ from our current setup?

Thanks in advanced.

Look into Notes Profiler… www.dnisystems.com

It tracks Notes ID, Address Book, Bookmarks, Desktop.dsk, Journal, Preferences AND User.dic

Version 3.0 that’s too be released shortly is supposed to work with both R5 and R6…

The current version 2 of Notes Profiler works with just R5… but you can download a 3 user license for free off the site.

in 6.0.1 notes overrides the notes.ini settings and looks up in the notes\data dir for the dics. if he doesnt find them, he comes up with the error. this bug is fixed in 6.0.2
