We’ve noticed many user’s roaming databases (names.nsf) all have the same replica ID.
That is the names.nsf replica stored in each users’ roaming folder has the same replica ID as several other users.
As we have many problems with users’ roaming information dissapearing/not initialising etc… and this certainly cannot be helping our situation.
Anyone else have this problem or knows why?
We run Windows XP on clients with multiple versions of Notes (6.5 & 6.51) and run Domino on win 2003 server with multiple versions too: 6.01CF1 - 6.51
Subject: Roaming databases have identical replica IDs
Hi AndrewThe customer I am working with had the same issue. Names.nsf and Bookmark.nsf on a lot of users PC’s had the same replica ID.
Reason:
When this customer originally configured their Notes clients (R4) there were no configuration tool, so they made a “standard” Notes client install, and copied a standard set of Notes files; names, bookmark, desktop and notes.ini using file system copy. This of course resulted in names and bookmark having the same replica ID on all workstations. This was neither a perfect idea, since all users had a wrong e-mail address in the Location document and other things, but let’s just say that “it seamed like a good idea at the time” when the administrator thought out this idea to minimize client setup….
I have resolved this by sending all the users an e-mail with a button which they need to press. This executes and action where names and bookmark gets a new replica ID, I change the name of names.nsf to <username’s Address book> instead of the standard name. I also set the ACL’s of the 2 databases and journal if it exists, if I don’t do that I, as an administrator, can not maintain them on the server. I mail back the result to me.
I am not a developer, so I had another external consultant doing the development for me in LotusScript.
I hope that this gives you an idea for a resolution to your problem.

Can you post the code you used to change the rep id?

Are all machines which roaming users logon to set up as multi-user installs? Bad things can happen otherwise, and I wouldn’t be surprised if one user’s local files are being replicated to another user’s roaming directory.
