Roaming - attach ID file

Hi,I am trying to enable roaming, but not sure where do I click the ID file? the ID is not in the domino directory, and I cant find any option to ‘select’ the id file to be copied into the personal names.

i can only see the user name in the dialog box if i have the ID file in the lotus\notes\data directory. whre can i merge the ID file?

thanks

If you create a new roaming user their id file is created the same as a normal user, either in the public nab or in a file. Once that new user runs through Notes client setup, their id file is then attached to their personal NAB which is then replicated up to their roaming server. If this user now goes to another system and runs through client setup the id file will be retrieved from their personal NAB. This way the user does not need to carry the id file with them. Now if you have an existing user, who is already running Notes and you upgrade this user to roaming its a little different. In the roaming upgrade tool you can specify whether or not to attach the id file to their personal NAB. If you opt not to then the user must have their id file with them to roam to a new machine. If you opt to have the id file attached to their personal NAB then when the user accepts the upgrade on a system the id file on that system is attached to their personal NAB and that is the one that will be used on other system.

The id file is in a profile note that is not visible through the ui. It is also doubly encrypted for security reasons.

See these posts (I contributed, sorry!) http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/nd6forum.nsf/ShowMyTopicsAllFlatweb/d18a7b832db07e1d85256deb0050c43c?OpenDocument

Basically, once you have set up a user as Roaming, Notes copies Bookmarks and Names to the Domino server - it also sucks in the Notes.id automatically. Neither you nor the user get asked about it. So, when a user first connects to the Domino server after you have set them up as Roaming, they do need to be using their correct ID!

As usual, it is all done with smoke and mirrors, but it DOES work.

Have fun!

Thanks Paula…

I think I have no problem creating new roaming users as ID file would be automatically copied into the Personal Add Book.

Just need to confirm your statement “it also sucks in the Notes.id automatically”. So, if this user does not have his ID attached to him domino directory, and login on the FIRST TIME from his desktop, his ID file will be copied into his Personal Address Book? This is based on the assumption that the user is login on from his workstation, right?

Any idea if we can see the attached ID in the Personal Add Book?
