RnRMgr on every server?

The answer is probably very obvious but I just want to make sure.

When we upgrade the server to 8.5, RnrMgr task is automatically added to the notes.ini hence it is loaded when the server starts. My question is, do we actually need the task runs on ALL Domino servers although there is no Resource & Reservations db on some of the servers?

Subject: If you are positve there are no R&R databases or never will be you ocan remove from ServerTasks= line

It will get put back in the next time you run the Domino Installer just to let you know… I just leave it on all my servers as I upgrade frequently to daily builds during development and it’s pretty much a no-op on servers that don’t have any R&R dbs… Bruce can correct me if I’m wrong…

Subject: John’s right

There are some benefits to keeping it in clustered configurations but on non-clustered servers that do not have R&R dBs the task has very little affect on the server.

Plus if you ever do put an R&R dB on the server you wont have to remember to readd the RnRMgr task to the INI file before you pull your hair out trying to figure out why R&R “wont start”…

Subject: Room Reservation

I know I seen this as well. First, stop the task on Domino server, make sure that it is only running on the server that it should be running. Second, edit your notes.ini and the remove the task from the task list.

That is all…

Subject: RnRMgr on every server

RnRMgr should run on every mail server.it’s checking user calendars and updates busytime database. So it’s require for proper meeting scheduling

Subject: SCHED is for user/mailfile free/busy

RNRMGR manages room and resource availability. SCHED still manages user availability.

Subject: Jerry is correct

RnRMgr only works on resource reservation databases and resource requests - it does nothing with the user’s free/busy time. Bruce and John said it from the developer’s point of view - its only needed where you have a resource db on the server.

Subject: Room

I have removed this task from all the servers except for the one hosting the resource db, and I have not seen any issues by having it remove…

Subject: RnRMgr

Agreefrom IBM Developer

The job of the RnRMgr task is to watch for reservation requests in an R&R database and to process them in the order in which they arrive or were created. As part of this processing, RnRMgr will both query and update busytime to be as current as possible, so that even the delivery of back-to-back conflicting requests will not cause a double booking to occur.

Subject: Thanks to all for your prompt responses

I will just leave the task runs on all our servers.

Cheers,
