Rich text with images in emails to the Internet

Hello, could you please show me what is the difference between sending a mail with RichText format or MIME format. How is recived this kind of email if the destination email client is, for example, Lotus Notes / Exchange / gmail, hotmail, yahoo, etc.

Also, if you could send me some examples or a reference link to a tool that uses these methods to make a script based would be fabulous.
