We have some emails which contain unrecognised characters in the Subject field when using an R7 client (7.0.2 or 7.0.3). The same Subject fields appear normally in R5 and these unrecognised characters are translated into something readable. The Subject field of these emails are RFC822 text.
Has anybody else had similar problems with RFC822 text ?
Is this due to a setting on the mail server ?
Is there a way of stripping the unrecognised characters out of the Subject field?
On the 7.0.2 client, try setting your default san serif fault (User Preferences, Basics tab, Fonts button) to “Arial MS Unicode” – or some other Unicode font. You may need to restart for this to take effect. Can you see the characters in the subject field after making the change?
It works with “Arial Unicode MS” but not with “Lucinda Sans Unicode”. I’ll have to try a few more fonts to see which ones work.
This does however affect ANYWHERE where the “Default Sans Serif” is used in ANY APPLICATION … not ideal so i’ll try just changing the font on the Subject column.
