Hi all, I’m looking for clarification on a question I have regarding Reverse DNS lookups.
We currently have a Reverse DNS entry with our ISP that maps our mail gateway’s IP address to it’s host name.
The problem with this is our mail gateway is sitting behind a Pix that masks the gateway’s actual IP address. All outgoing traffic from the firewall has the same IP address, which of course is different from the IP of the mail gateway.
What we need to do is create another Reverse DNS entry for this Pix supplied outgoing IP address.
The only thing I am not clear on is the name we want the Pix supplied IP address mapped to. Am I correct in assuming the name should be our domain name, and NOT the FQDN for our mail gateway host?
TIA,
