Retain view column sorting does not stick for Inbox

So I constantly have to click the ‘date’ column header to get the view sorted with the new messages at the top. Never had a problem before the new client install. I’ve tried turning the option on and off to see if it will work but no luck!

Subject: really bad

We have updated about 20 clients from 8.5 to 8.5.1

So far only one known person has told us about this issue.

Im kind of reluctant to upgrade the rest now.

Any known fix yet?

Subject: Please fix

A customer just called me with this problem. I tried everything I knew: checked the notes.ini, deleted the cache.ndk, desktop8.ndk, the whole workspace-folder. Nothing worked. The settings is correct selected in the preference ann is correct in the notes.ini…

Subject: Fix Found

I still don’t know what causes this problem, but we have found a fix that has worked for all users (so far)…

For non-roaming users: close the Notes client and delete desktop8.ndk.

For roaming users: close the Notes client and delete bookmark.nsf.

Subject: Retain View Column Sort

This is really an annoying problem that has cropped up over the years. I have one client I can never get to retain column sort to work. Now, it seems to attack nearly all machines so far.

Subject: Same here

We experience the same behaviour at a couple of clients. Setting the option over and over again, rebuilding the views, deleting the workspace or the cache file does not help. After reopening the database or restarting the Notes client the sorting is lost again.

Interestingly it also depends on wether you open the database from the server or from local. The sorting works for one replica but not for the other.

A solution would highly be appreciated.

Subject: Solution that worked for me

Care of Lotus Support - put this in the client notes.ini file.

DISABLE_WORKSPACE_ROAMING=1

Subject: Also works for us

Thanks for the tip, Stuart.

Adding “DISABLE_WORKSPACE_ROAMING=1” to the notes.ini of the affected clients works for us, too.

Subject: Getting a lot of pain from users about this

This is turning into a really painful upgrade for us - hope IBM can turn these issues around quickly!!

Subject: Retain view column sorting

Same here. This sets us back quite a bit in terms of user acceptance of Notes over Outlook.

If anyone has a solution, please share!

Subject: Same here…

Ok, thanks guys. I am glad it is not just me. I will wait for the fix before we go to 8.5.1.

Subject: Sort Retention

Well, I have to chime in again. 8.5.1 doesn’t seem to retain ANY sorts anywhere. The only way to preserve it is to NEVER, EVER close the Notes client. Really, really annoying!!!

Subject: Retaining Column Sort

We have the same problem here. Column sorting is not retained on any new installed account with lotus 8.5.1. When a client updated from a prior notes version, column sorting retains on some clients.IBM Support says this will NOT be fixed in 8.5.1 FP1! It is scheduled to be fixed in 8.5.2

Subject: …and one more thing…

Normally, I just do an overlay upgrade with all releases. With 8.5.1, I had no end of problems and ulitmately had to uninstall 8.5 (Actually reinstall it in one case to get a clean uninstall) and then the new install went well, except many of my local setting were lost. This happened several times on several platforms. More tacky stuff from Lotus.

Subject: This worked for me …

I recently had a customer of ours who had performed overlay upgrades of the LN client from 8.0.2 (Basic) to 8.5.1(Basic) and reported the same problem of column sort not retaining settings.

I simply advised going to the client preferences via File - Preferences (Basic Notes Client Configuration) - Additional options and ensure that “Retain View column sorting” was ticked (which it wasn’t).

With this ticked it fixed the problem.

Subject: This has just started happening on a clean mail file

I upgraded to 8.5.1 when it first came out and everything worked fine until I created a new mail file for myself on a Notes 8.5.1 server.

Then it wouldn’t remember the setting for this new mail file, but worked for applications on our 7.0.3 server.

I fixed my mail file by

  • downgrade mail file to Notes 7 (replace design)

  • turn of preference to retain column sorting

  • quit Notes & delete cache

  • restart Notes.

  • turn preference back on

  • sort inbox in mail

  • close & reopen mail

  • upgrade mail design to Notes 8

Its now working again.

Subject: Retaining Column Sort

This confirms that ALL new installations and upgrades to th 8.5.1 client on XP, Vista, and 7 CANNOT retain column sort. This is extremely annoying!!

Subject: Fixed with 8.5.1 FP2

This bug is supposed to be fixed with Notes 8.5.1 FP2.See:
