I have a crashed Notes 6.5 server that hosts mail files thatw e check from the extranet. I would like to build a new one with the same excat configuration. I have access to all the Dbs and certifiers etc fromthe original server. Can some outline the steps I need to take to install domino 6.5 on a new machine and restore everything to like it was with minimal time and effort? Thanks

Hi Wagas,
Just install from the CD, then copy all the databases & notes.ini files to there.

You need the complete data directory and the notes.ini file to get an exact configuration. Install the domino server as a new server with the data directory to a location that did not exist before the crash. Use a new domain and new org. Finish the install, start the domino server twice, and shut it down. Now, delete the complete data directory and the notes.ini, and replace it by the notes.ini you used before the crash. After restarting the server, it should work as before.
Good luck,
Marco

Thanks to everyone that responded. Thats what I was thinking. One question. After the new server is installedc (I am using a different machine for this) should I run through the setup at all or should I just copy over the data directory and the Notes.ini over from the old server? Thanks.

Hi Wagas,
No, you don’t need all of this, but Marco said you should do this.
I don’t understand why, and I did it a lot of times.
You can give a try…

Thanks. I will be trying this in a few hrs. Can you tell me if this procedure also automatically puts the new server in a cluster with the other existing server? Thanks

Yes, IT will restore the same server as you had before.Just pay attention for any customization you had for HTTP, or anti-virus installed and so on. They should be installed again, and HTTP configurations can be copied to the new server.

Thanks to all who responded. Usefule suggestions
I tried using the Notes.ini and the complete DATA folder from the old installation. I tried with and without going through the Domino setup after installing the new server. Eachtime I tried booting it up by restoring the old notes.ini and data folders but I would get the mesage that the server was already configured.
In any case I just reinstalled a new server, went through the setup and after completing it copied and pasted all documents from the priginal names.nsf into the new names.nsf. Restarted and it worked like a charm. I manually replicated all folders and databases and templates. Things seem to be good now.
