I’m about to make some modifications to the an already modified instance of the resource reservations db. Looks pretty freaky, though. Anyone out there been burned by doing this and got some tips for me?

Well, welcome to the world of perpetual redesign if you go the route of modifying Notes’ database templates. Just be sure to thoroughly document everything you change so you can re-implement your changes the next time Lotus changes the template (and you consider the Lotus change enough of an improvement to wish to implement).
The risk, of course, is that Lotus/Iris will thoroughly gut the code of a baseline application and your existing modifications will prove to be entirely “unportable” to the new architecture. Should this happen, you’ll be back at square one.
