Resetting notes password

One of my users has forgotten his Notes password. How do I reset or recover his password.

Can anyone help on this ?

If u have recovery information in cert ID/user id u will be able to reset users password

Switch to the ID allowd to recover recovery password-Go to Admin client-Configuration-Certification-Extract recovery password-enter the password for current ID & then when asked locate users ID to recover password for & it will give u recoverty password or will tell u that no recovery information is there in ID (if no recov info)

If no recovery infor in ID then you need to register user again overwriting existing person doc wnen asked (user will not be able to read any old encrypted mails with new ID)

Thanks for the update. I do not have the recovery information. Can you please confirm that the mail file of the existing user wont be overwritten and he would be able to acess is old mails and docs.

Dear Ajay,

What u do is, make a copy of mail file in another location,

register user, with all same anme and all detail. The Domino will create mail file with same name. After that what u do is copy and replace the new mail file to old one. It will work perfectly.

I have a question on that:I have a user that decided to change his pwd, then forgot what he set it to. the sysadmin does not have access to that mailfile - don’t ask - and I had the change his name after setting him up as I was given the wrong spelling…so I have 2 ID files, one has access to the Mailfile, but I don’t knwo the password, the other one I have the password for, but it does not have access to the Mailfile.

I don’t have recovery ID info and can’t access the mailfile to make a copy of it, so I can recreate that user…

any ideas what kind of options I have left?

Subject: Re-registering users

Re-registering existing users should only be done as a last resort, as it will cause them to lose access to all previously encrypted mail, documents, and databases.

While registering user do not create mailfile & later u can update users person doc with correct mailfile name

User will be able to read all old mails except encrypted mails
