Repost - Ed Brill - please response

Hi,

I have been a big supporter of Domino & Notes for the past 6 years. Currently I’m the domino administrator for a global multinational bank. We have 30,000 users and 300 dedicated domino servers across the globe. We use lotus for corp email & apps.

Due to current events, there have been talks & test conducted to replace Domino as the corporate mail server. The reason is the high annual license cost.

Could you reply and provide your email address for further correspondence?

This orginally appeared in the r4/5 forum. Appreciate if any feedback is done in that forum.

If we don’t nip this in the bud I forsee another email system coming in 2nd half of 2004 & lotus losing another customer

Subject: Not exactly a repost

Your posting in the R4/R5 forum seems to have been right about the same time as this one… for a minute, when I saw “repost”, I thought I had missed something. Anyway, I responded there … you might also want to check out this thread. --Ed

Go for nd6 and cut costs with streaming replication and compression - will cut down your WAN costs significantly (30% - 50%)Count up the costs of one single nasty virus in your environment (such as the type Exchange/outlook let in). I recall the subsection of a major reinsurance company pulling the plug on their entire network to prevent Nimda-D infecting each and every machine. They moved to Notes. No virii infection since.

Hows about putting the non-information workers onto Workplace mail and reduce costs there ?

Hows about putting a proxy administration system in in order to reduce your admin costs - such as our iDM product (http://www.hadsl.com) - reduce your admin overhead by over 50% ?

</cheap product plug>

Security. Compare security. Notes is used by all major banks for this purpose.

Show them the ed brill presentation on the Microsoft roadmap in the next few years.

Ask why 50-80% of exchange users are still on 5.5.

Applications. Whats the cost of moving them ?

(aside from the cheap product plug) - hope this helps!)

Okay - this might not help with your overall license cost - but there are various ways of shaving that down. Like waiting till december 20th before resigning - Guaranteed your sales exec will offer a huge discount… :slight_smile:
