Reply/forward without attachments - enhancement suggestion

R6 introduced a good feature: the ability to reply without attachments. But there’s a problem. Many users either do not notice or forget when they have attachments, and simply reply (with unneeded attachments) out of habit.

The option to reply/forward without attachments would be a much better feature if it was sensitive to the presence of attachment(s). When none are present, the menu option should be grayed out. When they are present, it should be highlighted.

I bet one could achieve something similar by putting logic in the actions associated with the buttons. But I think it would be much better to implement as suggested above.

Any votes on this suggestion?

Why just grey it out? It shouldn’t be all that difficult to actually hide the option completely.

The only reason to grey it out is to help keep the option in the mind of the user. But it would be perfectly acceptable to do as you suggest.

I actually think it is more important to highlight the option when there are attachments present. You really want people to think about whether they need to include attachments.

The key is to do something to make this feature more effective - any of the options discussed would be an improvement. I hope someone from Lotus will read this and just put the change in the template. There’s no reason not to, imo.

I see a possible problem with inline attachments. But all in all I agree wholeheartedly with you.

“Reply without attachments” should of course be the default action, if you would like to reply with the attachement in the mail, it should require an action from the user.
