I am not an Administrator and have not been able to find an answer to this other than in the absence of information indicating that it can’t be done.
I have a database that gets pretty large very quickly, I need for users to be able to get a replica of the database and to have the replica download new documents and changes. However, I do not want the clients to upload to the server database. In other words I want the clients to pull from the main server, but I don’t want them to push up to the main server. I know I can set this at the client level but can I set this at the database level. Is there a way to flag the database that it should not receive any documents from the client?
Any help would be good. Someone who had not replicated in several months just replicated back over 30k worth of documents that had been deleted in the main database. This caused a huge slow down and while I can fix this user, I don’t want this to happen again.
Thanks for any help even if it is to say ‘Can’t be done’.
Just make sure that the users only have Read access in the database ACL, that way they can get the new documents from it. This could create a problem though, and that’s that if they were to modify files on their local copy, they may expect it to show up on the server copy. What you can do then is in the ACL window, go to advanced and select to “Enforce a consistent acl across replicas”
That isn’t going to work, because I want them to be able to create documents, but only if they are on the server database, not on the local copy.
They have been instructed to do this and they are really very good about it. Especially after doing it once and getting an error telling them they cannot. I just need to not let their replications come back up to the server.
However, this might work for a couple of them, so thank you I will try and implement this as well.
Not sure, but on the advanced tab couldn’t you say that when ServerX (your server) receives from -Any Server- (which includes workstations) that it should only receive the following formula:
SELECT Form = “xyz” (some bogus formula that means Null)
