I’ve error message when replicate a database between a server 5 and a client 5 :
a strange code on the replication tab or a message like “… control index altered …”
compact or fixup have no effect.

Well I have never seen that, but for one thing indexs are fixed by update/updall, not fixup or comapct, so try thatas well.
Although, if the erro is on the client try these things.
Remove it from the replicator page and re-add it
Remove the icon form the Workspace, compact the workspace and re-add it
Close Notes , delete the cache.ndk from within Windows Explorer restart Notes.
Try the same with bookmarks,nsf, it will be re-created at start up.
last resort, delete the desktop.ndk and strat again.
