Replace Database Design

I need to replace a Database design, and select File → Database → Replace Design. I’m asked to select the Template I want to copy, however, the database design I’m replacing was not created with a template. How do I replace a database design without selecting a template?

You don’t.

In order to do a DB design refresh/replace the DB has to have been created with a template.

Otherwise you make your code changes in real time.

Our environment/process uses a test DB where we code changes, then create a template with the new functionality and do a replace on our production DB after a test cycle.

Ideally we would have a duplicate environment but we aren’t there yet. Right now we just have a folder in our data directories called ‘Development’ and we recreate the test environment there.

Be sure to create a new ‘copy’ and not ‘replica’ in your dev environment or your changes will move through to your prod environment before you want them to.

Subject: Replace Database Design

It doesn’t matter if the database design you are replacing was created from a template or not. The list you pull up on a Design Replace is any Notes database with an .NTF file extension.

It’s pretty easy to create a template from a Notes database. If you have your design changes in a local database which you now want to move into “production”, just copy your local database into a new database (or rename the file) using the .NTF file extension. Now when you try to replace the design, you’ll see this template as part of the list.

Hope that helps.
