Replace all matches

It is going to be my first topic, I’ll try to be clear. Thanks.

Introduction:

I’m trying to replace all instances of one vendor for another.

What??

Ok, I want to replace from all the places where apears the old vendor (“TRC”), for a new vendor (“BN”). I want to do replace ALL instances because I know I’ll find this program again and I don’t want to feel lost in the middle of BN and TRC. (Sorry, I’m not native english).

There is places with “form_id_TRC”, forms, views, agents and subforms, maybe some script libraries also.

In other places appears as a part of a name, there are buttons called “TRC” , and I want all of this instances changed for “form_id_BN” and the button changed for “BN”.

Possible questions:

  1. Why I don’t do this by hand? Easy, so much instances, hidden places, formulas… it’s going to take one month.

  2. Have you stole that database? No, no, it’s just I’m new on this job and with notes.

Thanks.

I’m tempted to encourage you to export to XML and do a simple text find/replace and then recreate the db design.

Thanks for your answer but if you can be a little bit more explicit will be greatefull.

I’ve found this script to export to XML, but doesn’t work,

And also I don’t know how to pass from XML to .nsf.

Thanks a lot.

I think teamstudio has some tools to accomplish this - take a look at thier products.

It looks like the Teamstudio configurator can do this.

Subject: RE: Replace all matches

I’m looking for a free solution. Thanks anyway.

Subject: RE: Replace all matches

No solution is free. The choice is between spending time and spending money. With time, you could export everything to DXL and make changes and re-import. With money, you could get the TeamStudio stuff. But neither is free. It just depends on whether you more time or more money to spend, and only you know that.

I got the point. Thanks. I’m going to spend time.

On my way at least I will learn, and not all will be lost. xD

Thanks.

Subject: Replace all matches, my 2 cents

We got TeamStudio tool mentioned in other post to do this.

Whilst you are doing it, maybe to consider replacing with a dblookup instead of hard-coded? Otherwise, same problem will occour next time the vendor changes…

Subject: RE: Replace all matches

I’ve used Configurator. It certainly can do this, in the content OR the design, and produce a log of its changes as well. You could be done in an hour, and have a tool you will use all the time.

Very cool. Well worth the cost. (Why the heck isn’t this built into Designer, Lotus?)

Sorry if I’m wrong, but I have found all this answers are for the data inside de database, and I want to change the database template.

I’m so sorry, I’m completly lost.

I think I need a newbie explanation, thanks.
