RenderToRTItem crashes notes client

I use RenderToRTItem successfully when sending an email in LotusScript unless the document being rendered was created using a form that has any LotusScript code in the onChange or Exiting events of an editable field.

When the user tries to open the email containing the rendered document the hourglass icon will appear and never stop. Users have to alt-ctrl-delete and stop the Notes client which shows not responding.

This problem will occur with any code in the events, even if there is only one Dim statement for the session in the event or even if there is nothing more than a single quote mark in the event as if you were going to remark out a line of code.

Also true if I use Javascript instead of LotusScript in the event.

I am using RenderToRTItem to email to a user a copy of a document they fill out and submit while in a database. Company policy does not allow me to use stored forms to accomplish this same goal - although I know RenderToRTItem does store the form with the document but in a different manner than stored forms.

Has anyone experienced this problem and found a solution. Using version 7.01. Thanks.

Subject: I found a solution to RenderToRTItem crashes notes client

I had to create another form with a body field and the setting to inherit selected document into the field.

When the user clicks the send button on the original form my button sets the uidoc to workspace.ComposeDocument using the new form and a I send it.

It causes the screen to jump when the new document is created and it brings the open document into the rich text field. Not professional but it works.

I created hidden fields on the new form for SendTo, CopyTo, Form and SaveOptions set to “0”. I set a notes document to the backend document of this one and change the form field to memo, save it, close it and send the backend document. Then close the first one.
