Renaming user accounts - generating id file

I am trying to nail down the process of renaming user accounts. I know how to do it, but I’m not sure what happens after the process is done.1. What happens if people continue to email the old username after the name has been changed?

  1. If they are using the client and they do not see the message to accept the name change, how do you regenerate an id file?

  2. If they go from web user to client, how do you generate an id file for them in the renaming process?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Jeff

On my experience:

  1. The old username is kept in the person doc within the names.nsf and therefore the person can receive mail addressed to the old name.

  2. If they do not accept the name chang, the Notes client will crash with Stop alert, nice red screen. The easiest solution (not sure if taught by Lotus), is to transfer the ID file to another Notes client, Open Notes with the changed ID and then accept then accept the name change

OR

Go through Domino Admin and do a name change on the ID and then recertify it.

  1. If the web users never had and ID file to begin with it would be easier to delete the person doc, create a new one but skipping the mail file creation process and then adding the new name to the ACL of the mail file and delete the old one.

This might be of use, if you are unsure then surf the help files for an explanation of how Admin4.nsf processes the name changes.
