Since upgrading server to 851 renames and move in hierarchies have been failing on the “Initiate Rename in Domino Directory” with the following error - One of the names to be added to the directory already exists in a different entry in the directory. See the Notes log for details.
Searching does not find the name in a different directory. An entry is made in Certification Log for new name, but Domino Directory is not updated.

We were able to resolve this in our particular environment. It turned out that a second address book that is manually maintained and part of our Directory Assistance setup already contained the name I was trying to change the user too. Turns out he was located here several years ago, went somewhere else, then came back here. His old address was still in that directory (not the primary Domino Directory). Once I removed his old name from that database, the name change worked correctly.
