"Remote system no longer responding" via Notes client; but Domino still logging to log.nsf and Linux is up and running. Weird!

I am running a Domino Server on Linux. It is part of a cluster, thru port TCPIP.

Suddenly, Domino stops responding to client connections. I start getting the following errors on the console:

30/12/2003 09:57:39 Error connecting to server SERVER1/ACME: Remote system no longer responding

Notes client connections are not longer accepted, since clients are unable to connect to server. I am able to ping server, SSH to it, and issue remote commands.

Domino Server continues running reporting problems, but no crash/panic occurs.

Anyone have seen this before? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Have you perform a trace within the notes client?

Secondly have you ever tried to type the IP addrsss of the server in the database open dialog? (type the ip address in the server name part) It is sort a cheat which has saved me from having to make a connection document.

Can other server connect to this problem server?

Check your console for TCP/IP socket errors when you start getting not responding errors.I ran Domino on linux for a couple of years. As the number of users increased, we hit a linux kernel ceiling.

I was eventually able to find some modifications for the kernel settings that stopped the messages…

Follow this link… See Appen C.

Hi Alton and Joe,thank you both for your reply.

Nope, will try that when problems occur again.

Nope, connection document is already created.

Nope. No Notes connections of any kind to it.

Alton:

Didn’t see any TCP/IP Socket Errors on my Domino console, just the error I showed you.

This server has currently a small usage, about 20 concurrent users, so I don’t think it is currently reaching kernel ceiling/performance issues.

I have to way to check the OS when Domino is running to see what may be going on.

I’m also going to check using cconsole to see if I get any response.

Thank you once again!

Best Regards,

Daniel

Hi, i’ve the same problem with a server with this configuration:

IBM Server (2 server in Raid)

Windows 2000 server and MS raid

Lotus Domino 6.5.1

groupShield last version

The problem is: the console is ok but no connections from the clients. We need to restart the server… No error found in the system log.

Many thanks.

Got same thing on one of two identical servers

IBM x440

4 x Xeon Processors

4GB RAM

3 network cards

Windows 2000 SP4

Domino 6.0.3

Clustered

Same exact problem, restarting the Domino server frees it up. Can access to/from server via network mappings and nping Port 1352 responds. Also while Notes clients (and the servers) cannot access Domino, HTTP clients are fine!!!

I am looking at an issue related to Licence Tracking. Anyone here got it turned on on their problem servers?
