Remote Setup Ignores Host/IP Address Field

Save yourself some time that I lost…

Modify /etc/hosts and include the common name of the existing Domino server.

ie If your existing Domino server is “server01/acme” with an internal IP address of 192.168.1.20, append the following to your /etc/hosts file:

192.168.1.20 server01

Even with the IP address or FQDN listed in the optional network address during the remote setup, the install fails with “server not responding” after multiple attempts. The common name of the server must be resolved.

I confirmed this with Red Hat 7.0.1, 7.0.2 and 7.0.2 FP1 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES 4 (with all the latest trimmings).

I started with 7.0.2 FP1 and found some other forum threads on FP1 so I downgraded…and downgraded…and still didn’t resolve the issue.

Hopefully I’ve added enough key words in the description so anyone experiencing this will locate this thread without spending the time I had to!

Cheers,

Scott
