Relaying Error?

I have a user that gets this error when trying to send an email to a paticular person.

Error transferring to mail.FILBERTFOOD.COM; SMTP Protocol Returned a Permanent Error 550 5.7.1 You must log in to send mail from our_server.domain.com

I am assuming that the remote server that we are sending the mail to thinks we are attempting to relay. Is this correct? If so is this a misconfiguration on their part? or is it something else?

TIA for any suggestions.

It doesn’t actually mention the relay part in the error message and if I’m not mistaken the last part can be filled in the config doc by the admin, so doesn’t necessarily point to what the error is. Another possibility could be that they have the “Verify sender’s domain in DNS” option set to enabled and that your mailserver doesn’t have a proper PTR record in DNS. Best solution would be to contact the mail administrator from the other company and work this out together.

Thanks for the input. I’ll contact them.
